The weather has just been beautiful up here. Fishing remains very good with a limit or two per boat common. Some nice rainbows to 16 inches have been reported in limits that average 13 to 14 inches. The Black Rock area continues to be the best location along with Eagle Point , Stevenson Creek and the Fishing Club. Most trollers are getting down from 12 to 20 feet and finding fish with in the thermocline areas in the lake. The fish have been in schools, so don't forget to change depths as needed and the color of your lure if needed. Flashers have been more productive for some in front of spinners with orange, chartreuse, ruby red and yellow beads, with a tip of crawler on the hook.
Shore fishermen are not providing good reports. I do think there are some locations where the fish are hanging out as they feed closer to shore. Perhaps it would be best to move locations every?? hour if the location you are fishing is not producing. Crawlers or Power bait is always the best bait.
The Shaver Lake Trophy Trout Project will be introducing a hybrid strain of rainbows 3 to 8 pounds this spring. Donations for the increase in cost are tax deductable and checks can be sent to the SLTTP at PO Box 908, Shaver Lake, Ca. 93664.
Captain Jack Yandell, a well know kokanee expert will join with me at Herb Bauer's Sporting Goods for a Shaver lake fishing seminar on February 26th at 6 pm. We will be covering everything we know about the lake, what to expect for 2015 in a slide show presentation. A free raffle will follow. The Shaver lake seminar has received great attendance over the years.Dick Nichols (559) 841-3317; Shaver Lake Marina (559) 841-3324; Shaver Lake Sports (559) 841-2740 Sally
