Water temperature is 73 degrees. Catfish came on the bite this week due to the heat and warm waters. Cats are eating anchovies, mackerel, liver and sardines. Rig a circle hook on 20 pound mono as your leader about 2 feet long, a 35 pound barrel swivel will be sufficient with a 1 ounce weight. Anchor your boat off the big points with holes or deep water or sit on shore and cast to either side of the point where those cats will be holding up. Another spot you can find them is in the back of coves where the water is warmest by the vegetation. The grass and shrubs provide perfect cover for cats and they are most aggressive in the warm shallows. Striped Bass can still be caught on the same baits as the catfish they are getting aggressive out in Heron Bay and Swallow Bay. Stripes are just starting to boil because the water is warm enough for the shad to rise to the surface. We are coming up on the end of Trout season so we didn't see very many but they can still be caught on worms or power bait products in deeper water. All of our trout plants have been at the Dam because the water is much cooler out there and the fish can acclimate better out there where they have access to deep water immediately. (925) 449-5201
