The morning chatter at Kittles Outdoor & Sports ( kittlesoutdoor.com ) in Colusa, Ca has revolved around the non stop striper action taking place in Northern California this year. Including the Sacramento and Feather Rivers. As striped bass anglers pour into Kittles grabbing their favorite baits and tackle needs, the general concensus has been that of a solid and productive season through the month of April so far and even back into March for some striped bass fishing guides, like Mike Rasmussen with SalmonSacRiver.com. Who has been on the bass since mid march when sturgeon fishing on the Sacramento River gave way to the much more popular and action packed striper fishing. "I cant remember a season with such a tremendous amount of water in the Sacramento River. I also can't remember a year with limits coming easy, daily, and without having to move locations in the river system. As has been the case for the last few low water years." Rasmussen exclaims. Also reporting continued success and limits daily this week. Striped Bass fishing guide Mike Rasmussen spent the previous week mainly trolling lures like broken back Rebels and the new Yo-Zuri spoon bill which dives and swims at the perfect depth for the water Rasmussen is targeting on the Sacramento River around Colusa, Ca. Acording to Rasmussen, when done correctly, a properly trolled lure can't be resisted by the striped bass and will trigger a savage reaction bite when trolled by a group of striped bass. Live minnows have also produced great fishing this season dispite the high and more stained Sacrametno River. Anchored, drifted, or dead sticked doesn't seem to matter as long as you can get it in front of one of these gready linesides.
As the season is looking to progress continually through out May and into June, if you have not yet journeyed out to striper fish either the Feather or the Sacramento River, wait no longer. The daily bag limits for river guides are rolling in daily and the striped bass are here in good enough numbers, that waiting to book a striped bass fishing trip with a guide or charter to ensure good fishing is actually a great ideah and can also help with navigation questions that might concern some of the new anglers to the area of river being targeted. Reserving a striper guide on the Sacramento River prior to a trip of your own can help locate striped bass schools and educate your self in any new changes or concerns about boat navigation through the Sacramento River. Most river guides still able to put together a seat of whole boat for striped bass anglers looking to reserve a date and book a trip. Mike Rasmussen with SalmonSacRiver.com can be reach on his website or by phone at (530) 722-8876. Get outside here in Northern California and feel good about the opertunities currently available to NorCal anglers. Good Luck out there!!!
Mike has called Northern California home his whole life. Fishing the streams of the eastern sierras for trout and the Russian river for steelhead as a young boy, his passion for fishing and the outdoors consumed his childhood as knowledge was gained. Attending high school in Corning, Ca, Mike also spent a great deal of time on the banks of the Sacramento river, chasing Salmon, Steelhead, American Shad and Striped Bass. Mike was fortunate enough to have been taught by some experienced guides that have since passed. Now a guide himself over the last decade, he prides himself on providing a comfortable, fun and enjoyable experience for all those he guides. You will not find another guide in Northern California as devoted as Mike and that spends the amount of time on the water as he does. It definitely shows at the end of the day when the fish are counted.
