The Nestucca River has two different hatchery winter steelhead stocks, one of which is early returning, and most prevalent in the lower river and Three Rivers which return late November through the end of January. In contrast, the broodstock hatchery fish return late December through mid-April, and should now be throughout the basin. The early returning stock will begin winding down this month, but February and March are prime time for broodstock hatchery steelhead and wild fish (catch-and-release only for wilds).
Fishing was moderate last week, despite the challenging conditions. The Nestucca eased up to 5.5 feet this week as the snow melted with the warmer weather, and with a little drizzle predicted for Friday it could fish a little better this weekend. There are hatchery and wild steelhead throughout the basin.
Three Rivers is low, but there are fish throughout the system.
Trout fishing in streams will reopen May 22, 2019.
