The Lower 100 miles are still off color due to Saturday’s storm but the river is recovering nicely. We had a group out on the three day stretch above Maupin report some epic fishing on golden stones and yellow sallies pre storm. Mayflies are starting to show up in great numbers and once the river clears those fish should be looking up again and hungry. The tribal side is open and permits are available online and at our shop, $50 for the season, $25 for three days and $14 for a daily. If you are headed into the canyon this weekend be prepared with plenty of big stone and mayfly nymphs. Those fish are gonna be deep until the water clears so utilize some split shot under an indicator to get your flies down where the trout are. Tungsten beads are a great way to add some needed weight to your favorite patterns as well as using tight-line methods to get those bugs down quick.
Depending on the rate the river clears we could be seeing some of the last big bug activity for the year, but not to worry as the caddis and mayflies are making daily appearances and will only improve as we enter the full swing of summer. Come on by the shop or give us a call to get the latest in bugs and info before you head out this weekend!
