Anglers have been catching stripers in the canal over the past week during the occasional boil within the first few hours of the morning and towards the evenings. Boils have been seen throughout the marina and around Chumash Island but have varied from day to day. Top water baits have been working well in the boils along with some swimbaits and spoon style baits. Bass have been biting along the grass lines on various soft plastic baits like flukes, senkos and robo worms. Jigs have also been working down deep during the heat of the day for both Largemouth and Smallmouth bass. Catfish have still been biting consistently throughout the coves on cut baits like mackerel, sardines and chicken liver. Other anglers have had luck using lugworms drop shot style to catch stripers from the banks and off rocky points and steep walls around the lake.
