The Truckee River has seen a bump in flows from our last Report. The downtown gauge is sitting at 350 as some water is being released from Tahoe and Boca. We are seeing fish activity pick up as the days get longer and water temperatures begin to creep higher. Nymphing the slow to medium/slow water with indicators or with ESN techniques have all been effective. Fly selection is still small 20-16, except for stonefly patterns 8-4 as skwala stoneflies are prevalent in the river.

Long term forecasts predict a series of low pressure systems moving through the next couple of weeks. It does look like there will be chances for overcast days here and there for some dry fly fishing. Calmer days have provided the best bite with trout rising from noon to dusk. The Blue Winged Olives are a size #14-#16. The fish have not been too picky about Fly selection, but very picky on presentation.

Truckee River Flies We Suggest: Spanish Bullet, Quill Jig, Hot Spot, CDC Red Tag, Zebra Midge, Ready Baetis, Carot, Hot Butt, Pullover BWO, Perdigon, Truckee River Dozen
