While it has not been as bad as it has been in other areas here in Northern California, smoke from the fires is definitely impacting the Fall River Valley. The fishing has remained very good. Morning offerings should be centered around the Trico spinner fall, the fish will congregate in seams and small eddies where the spent mayflies will collect. Look for fish gulping rhythmically on the rafts. You can also nymph the spinners, either a dry fished wet, or better yet the Drowned Trico under a small dropper. The Glosossoma Caddis are coming off strong on some evenings and will be a good source of fish food for the coming months. Smaller green Poopahs swung or drifted during the day, and a #18 Dark Missing Link will work well in the evenings. Swinging for fish is always a good option as there are a ton of scuds and leeches in this system.
Hot Flies: TB Drowned Rusty Spinner, PMD's, Norman's Wiggletails, Pheasant Tails, Mercer's Missing Link, Zug Bugs, and Leeches.
