Spring is a really fun time to be on the Metolius. Remember that the waters above Allingham bridge are closed until May 22. Nymphing remains the most consistent method for picking up trout and like previously mentioned, a golden stone followed by a caddis or mayfly imitation is a great way to go. Springtime means more bug activity and as we move along expect to see a variety of caddis and mayflies. For targeting Bull Trout, swinging big streamers or fishing them under an indicator is the way to go. Stripping smaller leach or sculpin patterns can be an effective way to target larger rainbow trout. Tough to beat a Spring day on the Met so get out there and beat the summertime crowds.
