The Upper Kern trout fishing remains one of the best bets. The DFLW has been consistently stocking the Upper Kern since the first week of December. There continues to be limit style fishing throughout the 20-mile stretch. Trout have been coming on trout jigs, salmon eggs, crickets, spinners, and worms. This week the Upper Kern was stocked in all three sections from Riverside Park in Kernville to Johnsondale Bridge. The Lower Kern was stocked with trout last week from Lower Richbar to Sandy Flat. Anglers have been scoring trout with Get Bent Baits, salmon eggs, pinched crawlers and Powerbait. The Lower Kern bass bite is fair to good on crankbaits, jigs, and spinners. Catfish can be found on dip baits, nightcrawlers and cut baits. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River was flowing at 302 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 199 CFS.
