Castaic Lake rose a couple of feet to reach 93 percent of its storage capacity, and fishing has been good. Bass anglers reported some great days while tossing drop shot, Carolina rigs, and shaky heads in 5 to 15 feet of water. Bluff walls, main lake points, and cobble stone banks all held plenty of smaller grade bass. Anglers who were able to make bait reported epic fishing for both bass and striper. Shad were reported up tight to the banks, and small swimbaits, flukes, and jerkbaits all scored multi species bites. Senko style baits were another good option for both large and smallmouth. In the afternoons anglers did well with square billed cranks and jerkbaits in the mud lines. Striped bass ate cut sardines along the dam, east of the marina, and at the West Ramp. Boat anglers trolled for line-sides with umbrella rigs and A-rigs. Be sure to keep a small shad imitator rigged up for the occasional boils. Catfish picked up cut baits, dip bait, and chicken liver in deeper coves around the lake, and bluegill can be had at the back of any brushy cove with live worms under a bobber.
