The EW is flowing at about 246 cfs right now. The water temperatures have been holding  steady thanks in part to the cooler night time temperatures and afternoon thundershowers we’ve been having. As long as the weather keeps cooperating this will likely stay the same, however, if the weather warms back up we may have to start asking anglers to back off of the river. For now though, the mornings and evenings are the best time to be down there and it’s best to let the fish have a break during the heat of the day. The dry action has still been pretty good in the mornings and evenings but the best fishing has been nymphing. Some patterns to try: chubby chernobyl, madam X, naked chernobyl, psycho prince, zebra midge, flashback emerger, San Juan worm, jig head worm, squirmy wormy, buckskin caddis, Fox’s poopah, z-wing caddis.

Also, some food for thought, in the Fish and Wildlife Departments infinite wisdom they have decided to not make barbless hooks mandatory on the East Walker, this is absolutely going to be detrimental to the life if this amazing river in the future, if you care at all about the East Walker and its sustainability, please pinch your barbs, if everyone adheres to this practice it will help the East Walker River to keep on being a world class fishery. Thanks for your consideration.
