Stocking: Trout Opener is this weekend, where 2,500 pounds of trout from Idaho will be stocked. Our trout come from Wright’s Rainbows, a family owned, commercial, aquaculturist in Idaho. Ten percent of every stocking is over 3 pounds. We will stock 19,000 pounds of trout this season. The bait shop is stocked up with tackle, Powerbait, and mini jigs for the opener.

What’s the Catch? For the opener, our rangers recommend stocking up on varieties of Powerbait. Salmon Peach Salmon Egg and Rainbow Salmon Egg/Garlic are the most effective Powerbaits for our lake. The stockers are fed Powerbait at the hatchery, so they’ll be looking for it, but don’t sleep on nightcrawlers either. Pinch off a piece of nightcrawler and inflate it on a treble hook on 2-4 pound test. The weather looks to be sunny, so expect the bite to be most active first thing in the morning. As the day progresses, expect the trout to be deeper or seeking shelter from the sun in the more shaded coves. The trout are released at the boat launch, but once released they’ll make their way back to Hermit Cove. Cloister and Siesta Coves are also good for trout fishing after a stocking.

Conditions: The current water temperature is 69 degrees. The sun is rising at 6:17 a.m. and setting at 4:48 p.m.

LAKE HOURS ARE CHANGING! With fall back, we’ve adjusted our hours to 6am to 5pm, Friday-Sunday. BUT New Moon Fishing will be offered once a month until spring. The next date for new moon is November 30th. The lake will be open until 10:00 p.m.
