Recent reports has this lake on fire! Good numbers of larger Rainbows are coming to those who pay attention and fish midge patterns. Target the river channel and keep your eyes open for cruising pods of 'Bows looking for protein. Good flies are always black and red Zebra Midges, brown and black Wooly and Crystal Buggers, and bring every size Pheasant Tail from #14 - 18, and likewise with the Adams. There can be a good mayfly hatch just about any day through spring, BWOs, Mahogany Duns, Callibaetis, this is a mountain spring creek-like stillwater.
The lake is a good option if you are in the area, with intermittent releases from Trinity Lake, fishing right below the outflow can produce some consistent hookups. With the amount of Damsels and Dragonflies in this system, Wooly Buggers stripped in brown, black and olive, and Balanced Leeches the same color stripped or fished under an indicator are solid approaches. And Zebra Midges in #16 - 18, black and red, are a staple here.
