Water clarity on the Lower Sac is still limited but anglers are catching Rainbows to 20"

Current River Conditions: River conditions are colored. It's still brown with about 4 feet of visibility. Fishing has been good for anglers throwing #6 rubber legs, orange and pink egg patterns like Boles Bazookas and Micro Spawns. Large rainbows going over 20" are common.
The Fly Shop's?? Tips: Fish deep! Your leader's length should be between 7.5' - 8.5' to the split shot. Use an SSG to get down fast.
When it comes to trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento around Redding, CA., nymphing is by far the most productive fly fishing method. We fish deep on this river. Although a tapered leader will work when nymphing this river, we recommend constructing your leader out of 2X, 3X and 4X tippet or level fluorocarbon. Basically, tie in your 2X tippet at the indicator and pull off about 7.5-8.5 feet. Now grab your 3X and tie it in using a double surgeon knot to a length of 18"- 24". Go ahead and tie in your first fly. The second fly drops off of the hook bend of the first fly. Use your 4X tippet to tie in the second, smaller fly. We like to use "BIG" 1 1/4" indicators. SSG split shot also known as "Goose Shot" (ask Cory) will get the flies down to the fish. If you are wading the river and not in a drift boat, add another AAA or even a second SSG to your rig. The sooner the flies get to the bottom of the river, the more time you spend "fishing".

Sacramento River: Fishing on the lower "Sac" has been great & the water conditions are ideal
Pit River: You'll find the best water conditions up in Pit #3. Fishing has been great
Trinity River: Trinity River fishing conditions continue to be great, expect good fishing throughout January
Baum Lake: January always means good fishing at Baum Lake & this month is no exception
Iron Canyon Reservoir: Ol' Man Winter owns Iron Canyon Reservoir at the moment. Fishing is going to be tough
Keswick Reservoir: Water conditions at Keswick Reservoir have improved & fishing should be fair to good.
Lewiston Lake: There are many, rainbow trout in Lewiston Lake & the fishing is almost always good in January

for Saturday, December 29th, 2012Klamath River - Upper - CA: There is still good fishing on the Upper Klamath near Iron Gate Dam
Sacramento River: Fishing is tough on the Lower Sac due to poor visibility, less than 1 ft.
Pit River: The is too much snow on the Pit River to allow for any good fishing
Trinity River: Fishing on the Trinity River has been great for some anglers, tough for others
Sacramento River: Fishing is still tough on the Upper Sac because of flows around 1,100 cfs
Baum Lake: Anglers are finding rainbows in numbers at Baum Lake
Iron Canyon Reservoir: No. Not happening. Ol' Man Winter owns this place at the moment.
Keswick Reservoir: Keswick Lake is very muddy causing poor water conditions -- not the place to go right now
Lewiston Lake: If it's snowy, fish elsewhere, if it is sunny Lewiston might be just the ticket
