The ice is receding from the shoreline at lower elevation lakes. Hoop Lake has 30-50 yards of open water on the north shore and the 14-inch rainbows were readily taking #14 prince nymphs suspended seven feet from a strike indicator. Nymphs and jigs would also be great using a fly and bubble -- watch this short video on how to rig this set-up at. The road is clear all the way to the lake, but there are still snowdrifts at the campground.

At Smith and Morehouse, the ice was pulling away from the shoreline on May 2. The road is rough and snow-packed for the last 1/4 mile. Currently, the Mirror Lake Highway is open only to the Duchesne Tunnel. UDOT anticipates that the Mirror Lake Highway (SR 150) will be open on Memorial Day weekend.
