Mayflies (BWO's #20 - #22) are on the wane.?? The next week should reveal a late (2:30-3ish start), abbreviated emergence, however this will soon to be replaced by midges on days when air temps manage to climb into the 40's, and those midges will start earlier in the afternoon (1-2pm).?? Otherwise, anticipate offering nymphs and streamers in the interest of sampling some wild ???bows and perhaps a rare westslope cutty.??
One opportunity to keep in mind regarding fly selection is that Skwala nymphs tend to migrate into softer, inside-bend substrate, pre-staging to over-winter, at this time of year (November into December).?? Your favorite Skwala nymph in a size smaller than mature (#10-#12) is definitely an apt offering at this time, particularly when fished along inside-bend seams.?? For that matter, various immature stones and attractor nymphs are solid through the winter, especially when supplemeted with a midge larvae dropper.
The staple streamers over here are generally sculpin patterns in olive and brown fished off sink-tips or extra-fast sinking poly leaders.?? No need to go too light on tippet on these bad boys!
