Good numbers of fish and fishermen have been seen up at Crane recently. Fishing has remained consistent though, with many trout being hooked under indicators and on the retrieve. Leech patterns in black and olive have been the go-to when it comes to the big attractor flies. Fishing under an indicator is a good way to mess around with different depths and flies. Insect wise, fish have been caught on midge, calibeatis, and chironomid patterns. The midges have been coming off in good numbers early in the day. A classic Zebra Midge or Rainbow Warrior pattern do the trick if the fish are targeting those small bugs early on. The Ice Cream Cone or Traffic Light chironomid patterns are good ones to try under the bobber leading down to a Balanced Leech. Fish are pretty well dispersed throughout the full reservoir right now so don’t be afraid to cover some water and search a bit.
