The Metolius has had good fishing lately. There are good opportunities for dry fly eats in the mornings and evenings. Pale morning duns and caddis are the most common bugs on the water. Golden stones are also around. Blue wing olives make an appearance right before dark on most days. When in doubt, shake the bushes and see what flies out. Nymphing is best with patterns that imitate the active hatches. Size 16 - 20 mayfly nymphs, size 14 - 18 caddis pupa, and size 8 - 10 golden stones. If my memory is correct, in a couple of weeks a larger stonefly that is locally known as a “willow fly” will start to hatch. A darker size 4 - 6 stonefly nymph may see some attention now that the willow flies are close to emergence. Bull trout fishing has been good. The week will start cool and then get back to hot, hopefully, the last of the heat for the year.
