Metolius fishing continues to be consistent. Cooler days have spread the hatches out and made for decent chances throughout the day. The caddis have mainly been around size 16 - 20, mainly in a tanish color. Pale morning duns are also around. The cascade stonefly (locally known as willowfly) hatch should start to pop off any day now. Golden stones and salmon flies are out as well, the goldens are mainly above the hatchery. Nymphing has been productive with various different stonefly patterns, small mayfly nymphs, caddis pupa, and green drake nymphs. Large and heavy dark or golden stonefly nymphs work great for getting your nymph rig down to the bottom. Jigged euro-style flies are also super productive. There are good numbers of bull trout in the system and most of them are nice a colored-up. Hopefully, along with the cooler than average temperatures we receive some rain to put an end to the long fire season.
