Flows on the Crooked River dropped to winter levels last week. My apologies for the report last week, they dropped the flows the day I wrote the report and my info wasn’t up to date. This week is looking cool and wet, there are even a few days where some snow might start to fly. This week could be the week we see a permanent transition from pale morning duns to blue wing olives. BWOs will be from size 16 all the way down to size 22s. There could be a few caddis still flying around but for the most part, caddis won’t be around in droves until next spring. Nymphing will definitely revolve around BWO (Baetis) nymphs, slim shady’s and tailwater tinies do an amazing job of imitating baetis nymphs. Two-bit hookers are always a great nymph for the Crooked. Scuds and midges are great as well. Cool-weather fishing on the Crooked is super fun, good luck out there.
