We have been hearing good reports from the Metolius. Nymphing with a golden stone followed by 12-16” of tippet and a small caddis or mayfly pattern is tough to beat on the Met. As far as dry fly fishing goes caddis are becoming increasingly important and may be hatching on any given day the next few weeks. If you aren’t seeing caddis hatching a nymph is a good bet as they will likely be in the drift over the next few weeks. Green Drakes are also important now and should be in your box if you're planning to fish the Metolius. Small stoneflies may also make an appearance over the next few weeks. Now is a very fun time to be fishing dry-dropper setups. For targeting bulls and larger trout, swinging sculpin or other baitfish patterns is a good idea. The river is fishing well and the fish are active so get out there and have some fun.
