Stocking: We received a surprise stock of 500 pounds of rainbows from the Department of Fish and Wildlife last week. With 1,500 pounds from Wright's Rainbows, our bi-weekly stocking totaled 2,000 pounds! So far, 6,000 pounds of trout have been stocked this season. The next stocking will be the week after Christmas.
What's the catch? Trout and more trout! Limits were fast and furious in Hermit Cove on mini jigs. Anglers reported hitting limits after 40 minutes. The shoreline of Siesta Cove was also good for trout. Jigs, powerbait, and worms in pink, orange, and yellow varieties were the most popular this weekend. There were limits of catfish reported on Friday. Mackerel and chicken livers were getting the most bites. Catfish are deeper, so a boat is best. Bites of small bass were also reported in Half Moon Cove and the t-dock. Just a reminder, bass under 12 inches needs to be released.
Fishing Licenses: Licenses for 2023 are on sale now and valid 365 days after date of purchase if purchased after January 1, 2023. The annual fee is $58.58. Fishermen 16 and over are required to have a valid California state fishing license. CLICK HERE to purchase your 2023 license.
Conditions: The water temperature around the boat dock is 63 degrees. The days are getting shorter with the sun rising around 6:31 a.m. and setting at 4:42 p.m. For a complete weather report in Lakeside, click HERE.
