Pyramid has continued to fish well, mostly on days with any weather. The sunny, windless days expected this week may very well make the bite tough, but there are still ways to get some eats during this time.

Often when the sun is high and the lake is glass, we look for beaches with greater drop offs and set our flies deep, to the tune of 12-14 feet, especially when fishing leeches. We also will downsize our leech and mix in some lighter colors during the calm days. Stripping flies can be a great way to find a few fish during these conditions, and if nothing else can break up the monotony of staring at a dead still bobber. Consider popping, twitching or stripping your bobber to trigger a bite when the lake is still. The midge bite on some of the shallower, rocky beaches can also be good when conditions are not ideal. This is when we would take the leech off and fish two midges on our set up, because the leech will be far less productive when there isn’t any movement provided by the waves.

Much like last year, we have already seen some of the fish begin to move into some of the shallower beaches in a pre-spawn type behavior, so some of the common spots for ladder fishing may be a good choice in the coming weeks. We continue to fish out here on a weekly basis and are tuned in on the latest conditions, techniques and gear for fishing at this unique fishery. So stop by the shop or give us a call with any questions!
