Water Conditions:
Runoff has slowed with the cold snap we are experiencing 6/5 but the stream, above Grant Lake is still high at around 168 cfs. The flow will change with weather conditions, but I think we have seen the peak? Below Grant the flows are around 90 cfs and fishable.
Fishing Conditions and Hatches: Okay
The area below Grant Lake down under Hwy 395 is running high, but not too high for fishing in a lot of places. Today, 6/5 the flow is under 100cfs. There is a lot of water to explore here and decent populations of wild browns and bows. The key is to keep moving and fish dry and dry/dropper rigs with attractor patterns.
Please note?Ķthis area is under sp ecial regulations! Please observe our Fish & Game laws.
There are a lot of places to fish in the June Loop, and the views are amazing. Plan on being flexible?Ķif Rush Creek doesn't pan out, you can always fish one of the four lakes?Ķor even all four of them!
The stream above Grant Lake and between Grant and Silver Lakes can be a lot of fun too fish and is stocked fairly regularly. The key is to move around and hunt out the "blue backs" (stockers) or be stealthy and locate the wild ones with delicate casts and approaches. This area is popular with kids and campers and is really worth exploring. There is quite a bit of fun water to be fished and a great trail for hiking along the stream, albeit may be muddy in some spots.
Recommended Flies:
General attracter dries work great on Rush Creek: #14 yellow Humpy's, #12- #16 Adams, and #10-14 yellow, orange and tan Stimulators, #14-18 Elk Hair Caddis.
Nymphs: #18-22 Zebra Midges, #14-18 beaded PT's and Hares Ears, #14 Zug Bugs and Prince Nymphs too. #12 Stoneflies!
Guides Hint: Bring warm clothes the next few days!!!!
