Fishing at the Upper Deschutes has been good. We’re seeing more brookies starting to push into the system for spawning. Rainbows are also around in certain spots. Surface action has been good with pale morning duns, caddis and some blue wing olives. I’d expect to see some decent BWO hatches this week, especially if we get some precipitation. Terrestrials, specifically hoppers, are good right now. Nymphing has been consistent with all the usual patterns. Jigged euro flies do very well in some of the deeper holes. PMD and BWO nymphs, caddis pupa, and midges are all good flies to tie on. Streamers have great potential for two reasons, the first being that the brookies get more aggressive close to spawning time, the second is that the fish need to fatten up before the long incoming winter. This is the last month to fish the Upper Deschutes so get up there before it’s too late.
