The Fall River has been fishing really well as of late. The fish may slow down slightly over this week due to the weather. Things are looking cold and wet, there are plenty of nights below freezing this week. Definitely expect blue wing olive hatches, they will replace pale morning duns until next spring. There could be a few mahogany duns mixed in with the BWOs. Fish may key into midges every now and then. If there are no BWOs or midges, hatching definitely rig up your nymphs. Big fish eat minuscule bugs on the Fall River, fishing with size 22s is an advantage. BWO (Baetis) nymphs are very important through the winter, tailwater tinies and olive slim shady’s are our favorite baetis imitations. Midges and other small mayfly nymphs are also super important to have. Euro nymphing is the best way to fish subsurface flies on the fall river, the euro-style flies are unstoppable. Remember that streamers can work surprisingly well on the Fall, especially when nothing else works. Cool-weather may slow the fish down but it also minimizes the crowds, which is my favorite part of fall and winter.
