Website
The fishing on the Lower Deschutes has been excellent. Remember to check the ODFW website before you head out, there are regulation changes for lower sections of the river. This week is looking cool and rainy which will likely lead to some really fun mayfly hatches. Pale morning duns in sizes 14 - 18 have been hatching. Blue wing olives may even start to hatch this week, look for them during the cooler rainy days. Caddis are still hatching as well, mainly small ones. Terrestrials still have decent potential until the first couple freezes. October caddis are on their way, now is a great time to fish an October caddis pupa. A variety of different mayfly nymph imitations around sizes 14 - 18 have been working well. Caddis pupa have also been picking up a few fish. Jigged euro-style nymphs are great for getting deep fast and catching lots of fish as are stonefly nymphs. Swinging soft hackle patterns during a mayfly hatch is a great way to get a fun tight line grab. If Bend is too cool and rainy for you, the Lower is a great place to find some warmer temperatures and feisty fish.
