This week Isabella Lake increased to 35 percent of its storage capacity and the water temps are in the 50’s. The crappie bite has been great for some and slow for others. These fish are still holding out in deeper offshore structure. Anglers putting in the time and finding schools have been successful. Some of these slabs are over two pounds and there have been some nice stringers coming out. Our contacts reported the best action was with large jigs and medium live shiners. Isabella is scheduled for a trout plant next week by DFWL. Trout have been coming on minijigs, spinners, garlic scented Powerbait, and Garlic doused Pinched Crawlers. Catfish continue to bite well out in deeper water around 70-feet near large schools of shad. As you motor around look for big schools of shad and there is a good chance the whiskerfish are close by. These fish have been hitting just about any vibrating jig that resembles shad. Bass are coming on 3/8 or ½ ounce football black n blue jigs and green pumpkin creature baits. Rapala black/blue clean up craws and brown/purple jigs with chigger craws are getting some quality bites. There have been a few bass on big swimbaits as well. The best areas have been Rocky Point, Engineers and Piney Point. The annual Isabella Lake Fishing Derby is scheduled for April 12, 13 and 14, 2025. For more information visit Copes Tackle and Rod.
