Lost Creek has been pretty busy on the weekends with the hot weather. Boat ramps can be busy so it’s best to have your vessel ready in the parking lot for launching before getting onto the ramp.
Lost Creek should be one of the most consistent trout fisheries in southern Oregon right now with 48,000 trout stocked this spring. There are some very nice holdover fish available that are in the 15- to 16-inch or longer range. Both the Takelma ramp and the Joseph Stuart Marina ramp are usable and have accessible docks.
Trolling spinners and spoons tipped with nightcrawlers do well up here. Bank anglers near the dam are doing well on trout as well. PowerBait is also a good choice fished from the bottom near the Takelma boat ramp or the dam. Trollers will probably start having better luck by getting their offerings deeper as surface temperatures are increasing.
There’s plenty of submerged vegetation to target warmwater species as well. Try throwing plastics or drop-shotting nightcrawlers in the vicinity of points and submerged vegetation.
Anglers can get the latest surface temperatures by calling the US Army Corps Lost Creek Lake and Applegate Reservoir projects information line at 1-800-472-2434.
