Fall Chinook fishing has been good in the estuary. Most anglers are trolling downstream of the Hwy 101 bridge, but anglers are having some success up toward the mouth of Indian Creek. Anglers have been using anchovies or anchovies with a spinner blade. Flashers have been very effective this year. Chinook are scattered throughout the lower Rogue, but warmer temperatures in the river are keeping most anglers fishing the bay.
Half-pounder fishing continues to be slow as very few fish have moved up the river. Summer steelhead are scattered throughout the lower river and anglers are reporting have some good success. Most anglers are using flies or small spinners in riffles and tailouts of pools. The best time to fish is early morning as the river gets pretty weedy in the afternoon from boat traffic.
Huntley Park seining project has started for the year and this is a great resource for anglers wanting the fish the lower Rogue. Anglers can check ODFW’s Fish Count page to get the two week updates on fish movement.
